Advancing Aberystwyth Ar Y Blaen BID

Project categories:
Business Improvement District
Town centre
Client:
Ceredigion County Council
Assignment:

Advancing Aberystwyth Ar Y Blaen is a Business Improvement District. Its job is to make Aberystwyth a thriving place to work, live and visit.

The means were commissioned in April 2014 by CCC to establish a BID in Aberystwyth Town Centre. This was a consequence of funding made available by the Welsh Government to establish 10 BIDs in Town Centres across Wales.

Timescale:
2.5 years
Project Description:

The first phase involved a feasibility study to scope out the key issues and explore whether businesses would support a BID in principle. Following a positive outcome, The means took Aberystwyth through the campaign and ballot phase which successfully established the Advancing Aberystwyth Ar Y Blaen BID in March 2017. CF31 started work on 1st April 2016 and will generate £1 million worth of spending in the town centre over the next 5 years.

The programme will tackle the following key priorities:

• Improving access and connections: parking offers, cross-town connectivity, free Wi-Fi, clearer signage and a public transport plan.
• Promoting and marketing: digital information points, consumer research, publicity campaigns, a website hub, loyalty initiatives, an ambassadorial service and tourism and events.
• Building the business community: lobbying for business rates reform, business incentives, mentoring schemes, a research and development hub.
• Strengthening relationships and communication: bi-annual meetings with the local authorities, reassurance on tackling crime, sharing BIDs best practice.

Ballot result: Turnout- 44% Percentage in favour- 54% Percentage of aggregate rateable value in favour- 61%
