To engage businesses in the creation of a Town Centre BID, test feasibility, assist development of BID Proposals, run the ballot campaign and help with implementing the BID post-ballot.
Basingstoke Together is a new Business Improvement District cover Basingstoke Town Centre. It exists to create a positive vision of Basingstoke and enhance its offer as a vibrant, exciting and desirable place to work, live and visit.
The Means was commissioned in November 2014 by Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council to provide advice on the feasibility of developing one or multiple Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in Basingstoke.
Basingstoke is an old market town dating all the way back to Saxon times and recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The market itself dates back to before 1214 when the market day was fixed by royal charter to take place on a Wednesday. Nowadays it has a large variety to offer both visitors and businesses and BDBC, as the local authority and a significant freeholder in the town, is working to increase partnership working across different stakeholders in the town and to breath new life into the centre.
As part of the commission, The means undertook a feasibility study, engaging with businesses across the town centre and facilitating a conversation between businesses and other stakeholders. Building on work begun by BDBC, a full Steering Group of interested businesses was formed who decided that they would like to take the formation of a BID forward.
Over the next 9 months, The means worked with this group of businesses and other stakeholders to develop BID Proposals that ultimately were given approval by the business community in Basingstoke Town Centre in November 2015.
Work currently continues to aid the BID during its set-up to ensure it gets the flying start levy-paying businesses in Basingstoke deserve.
