Neath Town Centre

Project categories:
Business Improvement District
Client:
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC)
Assignment:

The Means were commissioned in April 2014 by NPTCBC to establish a BID in Neath Town Centre. This was a consequence of funding made available by the Welsh Government to establish 10 BIDs in Town Centres across Wales.

Project Description:

The first phase involved a feasibility study to scope out the key issues and explore whether businesses would support a BID in principle. Following a positive outcome, the means took Neath through the campaign and ballot phase which successfully established the Neath Inspired BID in November 2015. Neath Inspired will start is work on April 1st 2016 and generate £500,000 worth of spending in the town centre over the next 5 years.

The programme will tackle the following key priorities:

  • Creating a better experience: advancing access and parking, improving the town centre environment and welcoming visitors.
  • Promoting a stronger identity: marketing Neath as a distinctive destination, events and loyalty card scheme
  • Growing Neath’s business: reducing costs, lobbying for change, strengthening relationships and helping businesses gain and retain staff.

Ballot result:

Percentage in favour- 68%

Percentage of aggregate rateable value in favour- 70%
